Welcome to the Lighted Path's Blog page. My name is Amanda O and I will be writing the blog. I hope that what I say is helpful, insightful, and encouraging! I welcome comments, so please don't be afraid to share yours.
Last night at our small group devotional, the topic of hospitality came up. Right away the gears in my head started turning and I thought of ways I could be more hospitable. Instinctual, maybe because I am a woman, wife, and mother, I thought of food. One of my ways is to open my home to new couples for a meal. However, during the discussion we all learned that hospitality was not limited to just food.
Romans 12:13 commands up to "Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality." The word "hospitality" in Greek is "philoxenia" [fil-ox-en-ee'-ah] meaning "love to strangers." We are also told in Hebrews 13:2 "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it." A prime example of this was in Genesis 18 when Abraham took in three strangers who in turn were angels. Lot also took in strangers in Gen 19 and protected them from a mob.
How do we show love to a stranger? Christ answered that in Matt 25:35 "For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in."
Please share with me the ways you have shown hospitality. We can all use some good ideas. If you have not before, I encourage you to find a way to be hospitable to the strangers in your life.
God Bless!
